Servings:

Ingredients

—Pitted dates — 10
—Pumpkin seeds — 40 g
—Dairy-free dark chocolate (70%+), chopped — 30 g
—Ground flaxseed — 1 tbsp
—Ground cinnamon — ½ tsp
—Salt — 1 pinch

Method

01Blend the dates and pumpkin seeds in a food processor until a sticky mixture forms.
02Add the flaxseed, cinnamon and salt, and pulse to combine.
03Fold in the chopped dark chocolate.
04Roll into 10 balls and refrigerate for 20 minutes before serving.

Why this works

Pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate are among the most magnesium-dense common foods, and two small trials found oral magnesium supplementation eased premenstrual mood and fluid-retention symptoms — though the overall evidence is still described as supportive but limited. Dates provide natural sweetness with a lower glycemic impact than their sugar content would suggest, thanks to their fibre.

Meal Prep Tips

Storage: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months — they thaw quickly, so just leave at room temperature for 10 minutes before eating.

Reheating: No reheating needed — enjoy straight from the fridge or after a short thaw from frozen.

Pairing: A convenient grab-and-go snack on its own, especially useful in the evening when magnesium-rich foods may help you wind down.
